VARILUX LENSES AND EYECODE
The majority of patients who require both distance and reading specs now opt for varifocal lenses for both the convenience of having everything in the one pair of spectacles and also the ability to see clearly at a number of different distances. . However, like most things in this life, there is a huge amount of choice and it is difficult to decide what is best for you. Many people are familiar with the name “Varilux” and it is often used as a general term for varifocals, much the same as the term “Hoover” is used for carpet cleaners (people tend not to say “I`m going to Electrolux the living room carpet....”). However, Varilux is, in fact, the varifocal brand of French lens company Essilor, who launched Bernard Maitenaz`s first commercial “Varilux “lens in 1959 and is a fiercely protected trade name. Varilux are at the forefront of lens development and design and it is our experience that their lenses are the easiest to use and probably the best on the market.
Look Opticians are proud to be Certified Varilux Consultants and we are able to offer an extremely accurate and advanced measuring system, the Essilor VisiOffice. This takes an enhanced set of measurements, not within the scope of normal manual equipment, and gives what is termed “eyecode”. This means that your lenses are individually made according to how your eyes rotate, how the frame sits on your face and how you hold your head, giving an extremely personalised product. The device can also determine whether you have a tendency to move your head or your eyes when looking to the side, allowing you to select Essilor`s premium lens product, the Varilux Ipseo.
The VisiOffice system also allows a comparison of lens thickness and weight for different materials and can demonstrate how various lenses work, such as Transitions (reacting) lenses and Polarised (anti glare) lenses – it really is “a fantastic piece of kit!”
We will be happy to advise you on all the different Essilor and Varilux products on offer and help you to decide what is best for you. However, there is no doubt that, in this case, you really do get what you pay for and products such as Varilux Physio f360 and Varilux Ipseo really are pretty much the best that money can buy.
All Varilux lenses come with a 30 day guarantee so, if you really can`t wear them (an extremely rare occurrence), we will exchange them for another product at no charge.
